The most exciting car of 2019?

The Apollo Intensa Emozione has officially entered production!

The Purple Dragon in testing, 2018.

If you haven't heard of the Apollo IE, you've frankly been living under a rock. It was first teased to the world back in 2017 after the old 'Gumpert' (responsible for the Gumpert Apollo) company was bought out by someone in Singapore who turned the company in the direction of a crazy naturally aspirated V12 hypercar-building madhouse and we all love it.

When the 'white dragon' and 'purple dragon' were unveiled, the car community was in shock, the styling hits harder than a freight train with the angular lines and cutouts, the undescribably large rear wing and futuristic looks. Everyone wanted one, despite not knowing anything performance wise.

As development carried on and we saw more and more of the car, Apollo revelead more about where it would sit in the market- rather high up. It was shown to have a naturally aspirated 6.3L V12 which (we now know) produces 780hp at 8500RPM! Pair this with 760Nm of torque and a curb weight of 1250kg and that gives you a 0-60mph time of only 2.7 seconds and a top speed of 208! That's quicker than 99% of cars on the market as of right now and it's another hypercar to join the elusive 200mph club. That top speed is highly impressive considering that, at 186mph, you get a total of 1350kg of downforce which is 100kg more than the weight of the car. The engine has 3 different modes from Wet, Sport and Track to have the best setup while you're driving, this pairs together with the suspension modes to give you the best driving experience.

The White Dragon testing in the coldest of conditions, blending in with the snow.

The chassis has been made as light as possible with extensive use of lightweight materials. The entire frame is made of carbon fibre which gives the car a chassis strong enough to race in LMP2 with no modifications...that's impressive stuff! The wheels are forged from aluminium which wear Michelin Sport Cup 2 tyres in it's road configuration which when warm provide a very large amount of grip. The brakes are Brembo Carbon Ceramics with 380mm disks all around, the calipers are 6-pot on the front and 4-pot on the rear which should provide racecar like stopping power when hitting the corners on a twisty mountain road or track. The front suspension is a double wishbone setup with pushrods and a rocker anti-roll-bar while the rear suspension is a double wishbone setup with pushrods and an adjustable anti-roll-bar. This is paired with a Bilstein damping system with 3 different modes running through Comfort mode, Sport mode and Auto mode. This also means that the car could be fitted with an electro-hydraulic lifter which raises the vehicle by 50mm up to 18mph. In terms of ABS, the car has 10 different levels to adjust from track driving to wet driving for optimal speed and safety.

The Apollo IE is going to be one of the most exclusive road cars built, they are only building one batch of just 10 cars which are all going to be uniquely specced by the incredibly lucky owners. Apollo are also going to run a time attack program for the owners that will be run on the most relevant European racing circuits. The owners will also gain first dibs to the future car from Apollo, the Arrow which we are due to see at some point this year.

The Purple Dragon even made it's way to the Goodwood Festival of Speed in 2018.

So now that the Apollo Intensa Emozione is in production, we'll get to see how the very lucky owners spec their incredible new cars, let hope they don't just remain as garage queens...
