Porsche Electrified

A few years back, Porsche revealed the 'Mission E' which was the first sneak peek into the electrification of Porsche. Now, we've been introduced to the 2019 electric model, the Taycan.

The Taycan will be released in September but we do have a few stats available to us now. Obviously, it will be up against the Tesla Model S which has 595 hp in it's most powerful mode. This gives it a 0-62 mph time of just 2.4 seconds, making it the fastest accelerating production car in the world. Which, considering it's 2.2 Ton weight, is rather impressive.

The Taycan follows very similar styling ques to the 911 and 718 that we know and love.

But, Porsche being Porsche, they want to go better and faster. It's predicted that the top end model will have around 630hp and with a similar weight to the Model S, we can assume that it will be hitting 62 mph monumentally quickly. So the performance is certainly not going to be lacking.

In terms of models, there will be at least 3 versions of the Taycan. The 630hp one I spoke about above, a 500(ish) hp version and then a 400hp entry level car. All three of these versions are going to be driven by two motors and an AWD powertrain. There is a possibility for a much lighter, one motor, 300hp version coming later in it's life but we will have to wait and see what Porsche cook up. All of the mentioned versions will be 4-door and there is currently no plan for a two door version or an "ultra-sporting GT model" currently in the works.

The naming is where Porsche managed to cause some controversy, as per usual, the Taycan will stick with Porsche's conventional naming system. Starting with just 'Taycan' then working it's way up through the 'S', 'GTS' and 'Turbo' variants, but obviously there is no way that the electric car will have a turbo strapped to it so Porsche are really just doing that for creature comforts as far as we're aware.

The rear of the Taycan is just as nice as the front in my opinion. It'll be interesting to see it hit the road!

So after 6 million kilometers of testing from -35° to +50° Celsius, the Taycan is very close to hitting our streets.

Do you think it'll be the next fastest production car to 62mph? Let me know on instagram @parkers_pics19
